Strata Gallery is looking for a part-time Gallery Assistant.
About Strata Gallery: Strata Gallery is a non-profit, artist-member gallery with a mission that cultivates artistic discussion and educates the public about the work of contemporary established and emerging artists. Through our mentorship program, our established artists give our emerging artists direct guidance, feedback, and information as they learn to navigate their artistic practice. Through collaborations and discussions, Strata Gallery provides a venue that encourages artists to experiment and re-examine what art is and could be. Strata Gallery presents community events, including but not limited to; exhibits, educational tours, guest lectures, performances, poetry readings, workshops, and printed educational materials. Strata Gallery does not favor any distinct style and promotes a range of diverse and authentic individual expression through a varied material practice, imagery, style, and ethos independent of any commercial concern.
Compensation:
$13.50/hour
Description of position:
Strata Gallery Assistants will gain hand-on experience working in a non-profit gallery located in a Santa Fe. Gallery Assistants will be responsible for welcoming visitors, assisting with daily gallery operations, installing/deinstalling exhibitions, and promoting/working special events.
Schedule: The Gallery Assistants must be available to work weekends. This position requires the Gallery Assistants to be available every Saturday, and at least 1-2 additional days a month for special events and the installation/deinstallation of exhibitions. Typically, exhibition deinstallations occur on Saturdays and installations occur on Sundays.
Requirements:
Reliable and able to commit to allocated days
Good communication skills
Approachable and enthusiastic
Able to follow and implement Gallery protocols
Attention to detail and ability to work independently
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Studio Art or Art History experience
Duties:
Greet visitors and interface with the public
Provide general information about current exhibitions and artist members
Record visitor statistics and questions
Assist with installation and deinstallation of exhibitions
Assist with setting up for special events
Assist with social media posts and designs
Create wall labels for exhibitions
Monitor and keep artwork safe by enforcing Gallery rules and protocols
Answer phone calls and take messages
Field sales of artwork, catalogues, books, etc.
Perform “opening” and “closing” procedures
Gallery maintenance i.e., sanitizing commonly touched spaces, dusting, sweeping, mopping, etc.
Must adhere to Gallery Assistant dress code as directed by the Gallery Director
