The Airport Collection

The Airport Collection series of exhibitions at Santa Fe Regional Airport offers travelers a unique chance to experience fine art in an unexpected setting. Curated by the Santa Fe Gallery Association and funded by the Santa Fe Arts and Culture Department, this rotating series showcases original artworks in the airport terminal, turning a busy space into a calm environment. The exhibitions highlight Santa Fe as a destination known for artistic excellence and world-class galleries.

Featured artists are chosen from those regularly shown in Santa Fe’s galleries and museums, giving them valuable exposure in a bright, expansive venue. Large-scale paintings often occupy the airport’s massive north wall, with photography nearby and sculpture, glass, or textiles displayed in an alcove above the tarmac door.

The artwork spans a wide range of styles and mediums, including antique Navajo (Diné) weavings, glass sculptures, Modern and Contemporary paintings, bas relief, photography, and mixed media. Each exhibition has a distinct theme to showcase diverse art. The current show, “Winter: Reflection and Retrospective,” features a series of exquisite, local watercolor landscapes by Stan Berning and a retrospective collection of works previously shown by The City of Santa Fe Arts Commission in 2018.

Since its start during the airport expansion, the Airport Collection has presented three to four exhibitions annually. The exhibitions invite travelers to pause, reflect, and enjoy art during their journey, although access is limited to ticketed passengers beyond security.

Printed programs and airport signage with QR codes provide detailed information, and all works are for sale (with the exception of select pieces in the Retrospective exhibit). The Airport Collection enhances Santa Fe’s cultural landscape by welcoming visitors with a vivid artistic experience before they ever leave the airport and an invitation to return to passengers departing for distant horizons.
