Photography 200 New Mexico in 2027

As a founder of PHOTOGRAPHY 200 NEW MEXICO, the SFGA invites you to partner in a Santa Fe city-wide celebration of photography’s 200th anniversary in 2027. 

Timed to commemorate the oldest existing photograph, made by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce (French, 1765–1833), the year-long celebration includes exhibitions, lectures, and workshops at a growing number of art institutions and prominent photography galleries across Santa Fe, including Axle Contemporary, CENTER, the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, Santa Fe Community Gallery, Obscura Gallery, and Scheinbaum & Russek Ltd.

I am reaching out to our membership because you are valued partners who already contribute to the richness of the medium in our community with your expertise. We’re open to a variety of contributions and are happy to advise or help you shape yours.

PHOTOGRAPHY 200 NEW MEXICO aims to highlight the history, practice, and future of this important medium in our state, which has long been a destination for photographic innovation over the last two centuries.  To confirm your participation and be included on the press release and website, please submit your information on this form by November 15, 2025.

Initial Key Dates:

Friday, March 5, 2027: City-wide photo art crawl

Saturday, March 6, 2027: Launch party

Sunday, March 7, 2027: Birthday of Niépce and kickoff for the year-long celebration
